The Kansas City Royals have acquired Franchy Cordero from the San Diego Padres in exchange for left-handed reliever Tim Hill.

Cordero, who hits for power, has played all three outfield positions.

Kansas City also acquired right-hander Ronald Bolaños in the deal.

The San Diego Padres and Oakland Athletics have completed baseball's first trade since the roster freeze was lifted last week.

Oakland is sending infielder Jorge Mateo to San Diego in exchange for a player to be named or cash considerations.

Mateo was part of the deal that sent Sonny Gray to the New York Yankees back in 2017.
